ARE you looking to update your home but not sure which trend to follow?
Well, according to one interior designer named Loren Kreiss, there are five popular trends you should "avoid at all costs."
First up on his list of styles to steer clear of in your home is maximalism.
"It looks so glamorous when [interior designers] Kelly Wearstler or Jamie Bush pull off a fabulous Technicolor vision," he explains, in a clip shared to TikTok.
"But for us mere mortals, maximalism is just an excuse to have a messy house."
Next up on Loren's popular trends to avoid are checked floors.
"Checkered floors have been around for centuries in some form or another, and I can handle them in doses, but going over the top with them is a very bad idea," he says.
"It's giving low budget Alice in Wonderland."

The third trends the interior designer addresses is modern farmhouse.
"It's had its moment, but that shiplap has sailed," he says.
"Just say no to barn doors and generic mass produced designs."
According to Loren, people should also steer clear of mid century modern trends.
"It's been trending since the middle of the 20th century," he explains.
"But it's time to try something new.
"We don't need to see any more Eames or Barcelona chairs."
He then goes on to say how moody interiors and paint colours are also a big no.
"We've seen some of the top design talent pull this off, but for the rest of us, this needs to be a hard pass."
He warns: "Dark and dreary colours like grey and black will make your home feel like an emo teenager's cave.
"You've been warned."
Loren concludes by asking his social media followers whether they fall into any of these design trends – and he's not short of answers.
"My house is mid century soooo I'm going to have to pass on that advice," wrote one.
A second penned: "100% agree! I love mid century modern but more the architecture than the furniture design aesthetics. We need to move on."
A third commented: "Wasn’t mentioned but I have millennial grey floors…I can’t wait to get rid of them."
Meanwhile, a fourth wrote: "Respectfully have to disagree mid century modern is still a beautiful style."
Another added: "I just painted my living room a dark green and I love it."
