One of Manchester's most popular pasta kitchens is teasing plans to open a fourth restaurant in the city centre – and it’s leaving diners very excited.
Sud Pasta, formerly named Sugo Pasta Kitchen, opened its first restaurant in 2015 and launched a second in Ancoats in 2018. Co-owners Mike and Alex De Martiis opened their third restaurant in Sale in 2021.
Sud, which takes its name from the Italian word for ‘south’, announced via an ‘ominous’ post on social media that a forth restaurant is due to open in Manchester city centre very soon.

"We're opening a brand new kitchen in central Manchester," an image posted on Instagram said. "Undisclosed location. Undisclosed menu. W/c 21/8/23."
The post led to immediate speculation from followers about its location. “Oooh, are you joining Exhibition?,” one queried. Another said: “it’s gonna be where Nonna’s is watch this space.”
It also led to some sharing their demands for a Sud restaurant closer to their home. “Not quite prestwich," one joked. Another wrote: "Can you open one in Macclesfield please," while another even further afield said: "Snakes that it’s not London / Oxford / cardiff / Bristol aka nearer to me.”
One eager diner, already keen to know where the new restaurant will be, questioned the light-on-details post by asking: “How will anyone know how to find it?!” Keeping up the mystique, Sud Pasta replied: "it’s pretty likely we’ll tell you where it is before opening.”
Earlier this year, Sud revealed how shockingly small its profits are for one of its most ordered dishes. Charging £16.50 for its 'house sugo' pasta, the restaurant revealed that it makes less than £1 once expenses are all factored in.
“We’re definitely not asking you to get the violins out but please bear this in mind when questioning the validity of independent restaurant prices,” the owners said at the time. “Whilst our accountant would tell us to increase prices, source cheaper produce, cull staff & even turn off the air con we’d rather ride the storm with your support and hope for more prosperous days ahead.”
