A former Northumberland department store in a coastal town could be turned into flats.
Plans have been lodged to convert what was once Dalgleish's department store in Berwick into five flats. Located on West Street, the building was also a Post Office before being refurbished into a studio for architect Camerons Strachan Yuill Architects.
Builder Michael Richardson now wants to split the large commercial floor space on the upper floors into four two bedroom flats, and turn a small rear ground floor office into a two bedroom flat. An office would also be retained in the ground floor for Camerons Strachan Yuill Architects.

In a planning report to Northumberland County Council, it states: "The proposal makes an efficient use of the redundant office and commercial space, with minimum impact on adjoining occupiers and businesses. The overall floor area of the existing offices spaces is being fully used and maximised in such a way to offer five new flats within the town centre of Berwick-upon-Tweed.
"The proposal has no adverse effect on the Berwick Conservation Area. The proposal is in a location with high level public transport access and ideally suited to provide economical accommodation in a very sustainable manner."
The proposals would see a new office area on the ground floor access through the existing recessed door. A new entrance door will be installed next to it, leading to the new proposed flats on the ground floor and on the upper floors.
Work would include replacing the majority of the timber sash and case windows and timber casement windows due to their frames being rotten and past the stage of repair.
Part of the scheme will see a stairwell extension through the existing first floor flat roof to allow access to the second floor bedrooms.
