The curtain came down on another season at Maidenhead Thicket Bowls Club at the weekend, with a vast array of trophies being won by teams and individuals on finals weekend.
This year the club championships were won by Paul Worthy and Nicola Jones, who defeated Richard Thrift and Gemma Hanks in the final.
In the two-wood competition, Richard Thrift got the better of Melvyn Forward while Gemma Hanks secured victory over Sheila Gwilliam.
There were some outstanding games to round off the season in the men’s hope and women’s novice matches. The events are for bowlers who’ve yet to win a club competition and Ross Burton and Jennifer Bosley got their names on the coveted trophies after beating Bob Wyborn and Chris Whittaker in their respective finals.
Tommy Hanks won the men’s handicap with a victory over Graham Lock while Gemma Hanks just failed to make it a family double after losing to Pauline Tuttle in the women’s handicap. The mixed handicap was won by Peter Brander who got the better of Pauline Tuttle.
Bob Wyborn did get to savour victory playing alongside Tommy Hanks in the men’s drawn pairs as they overcame Paul Sherwood and Ross Burton on the very last wood. In the women’s equivalent, Nicola Jones and Vivienne Davies saw off the challenge of Gemma Hanks and Gill Gibbs on an extra end.
The husband-and-wife team of Paul and Elaine Worthy teamed up to beat Kevin Scrace and Pauline Tuttle in the Mixed Pairs, while Richard Thrift, Jennifer Bosley and Gill Gibbs won their Mixed Triples final against Tommy Hanks, Dave Crooks and Joan Summers.
The Chris Pheby trophy competition was held separately and won by Tina Scherer.
Special mention must go to Nicola Jones who represented Berkshire in Leamington as the county singles champion. She went on to become the county champion of champions, a superb achievement and a credit to the club and the town.
