Chennai, Sep 24 (UNI) The Greater Chennai Police on Sunday night
announced that a total of 1,48 of the 2,148 idols installed in the city
and suburbs were immersed in the sea peacefully.
Police sources said the Vinayagar idols installed and worshipped with
due permission from Police in Greater Chennai Police, Avadi and
Tambaram Commissionerates were taken in procession and immersed
in the sea peacefully
In view of Vinayagar Chaturthi festival on September 18, 2,148 idols
were installed with due permission at public places and worshipped
in Chennai, Tambaram and Avadi Police Commissionerates.
Permissions were given to take all the worshipped Vinayagar Idols in
procession along the routes permitted by the Police and immerse them
at four places – Pattinambakkam-Srinivasapuram, Neelankarai-Palkalai
Nagar, Kasimedu Fishing Harbour and Thiruvotriyur Popular Weighing
Bridge today.
Accordingly, on the orders of Chennai City Police Commissioner Sandeep
Rai Rathore and on the guidelines of Additional Commissioners of Police
and Joint Commissioners of Police, under the direct supervision of Deputy
Commissioners headed by Assistant Commissioners and Inspectors, more
than 22,000 police personnel, including 16,500 police officers and men from
law and order, traffic, special wings, armed police, commandos from armed
reserve and 2,000 Home Guards were deployed for bandobust duty.
Similarly 2,080 officers and police personnel from Avadi Commissionerate
and 1,500 police officers and police personnel from Tambaram Police
Commissionerate, altogether 22,080 police officers and men were deployed
for bandobust duty.
Besides, 21 training DSPs, 429 training SIs, 280 policemen from Tamil Nadu
Special Police and 150 policemen undergoing training were also deployed for
bandobust duty.
Vinayagar idols installed and worshipped in Greater Chennai Police, Tambaram
Police and Avadi Police Commissionerates were taken in procession along the
routes permitted by the Police today.
While 1,197 idols in Pattinambakkam-Srinivasapuram, 537 in Neelankarai
-Palkalainagar, 180 in Kasimedu Fishing Harbour and 24 idols in Thiruvotriyur
behind Popular Weighing Bridge, 10 idols in nearby water bodies–totalling
1,948 Vinayagar idols were immersed in the sea peacefully.
Mr Sandeep Rai Rathore commended the work done by the Police officers
and Policemen and Policewomen and Home Guards for providing incident-
free bandobust during processions and at immersion points.
