Seven men including five workers from Assam were killed when a car collided with a state government bus at Sangam-Krishnagiri Highways, in the Tiruvannamalai district of Tamil Nadu, PTI reported.
The accident occurred when the SUV carrying about 11 people, mostly workers, was proceeding to Krishnagiri. It rammed into the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation bus coming here from Bengaluru on the Tindivanam-Krishnagiri national highway on Monday night, police said.
Out of the 11 people who were in the SUV, seven workers lost their lives in the accident, while those who sustained injuries have been taken to the Government Hospital in Tiruvannamalai for medical treatment.
The individuals who lost their lives in the accident have been identified as Bhinmal Tirth, Kuncha Rai, Dallu, Nicholas, and Narayan Sethi, hailing from Assam. Additionally, Punith Kumar, the driver, and Kamaraj, who was from Krishnagiri district, were also among the victims. These seven individuals were employed as workers at a factory near Hosur and were on their way back after a visit to Puducherry on Ayudha Puja day.
Police noted that the passengers of the TNSTC bus and the crew, as well, were not injured.
