So you’re looking for the accent cabinet or chest for your home? You’re not alone! More and more people are looking for this particularly useful piece of storage furniture. Our hope is that this post will help you select the perfect cabinet or chest for your home!

Accent cabinets and chests will typically offer many layers of storage, either in the form of drawers, or internal shelving behind two or more doors. If you have a room that needs more storage, these could be a perfect solution. You could store extra linens in the bedroom, or the kids games in your living room.

If you have an empty area or corner in your space and you just want to fill it, then I’d recommend a console table or accent table, as these will be less expensive because they don’t come with much storage.

Popular Types of Accent Cabinets and Chests

If you’re sure you want an accent cabinet with drawers or shelves or a storage chest, then let’s go over some of the different types you can choose from. These are the most popular styles of accent chests.

Accent Cabinets with Drawers

The most basic style of accent cabinet is one with lots of drawers! Hiding away the clutter is very important when it comes to storage. On the other hand, you need easy access to what’s inside and drawers take care of that beautifully. This gorgeous mid-century modern accent chest is perfect for storing many different things in separate areas.

Accent Cabinets with Glass Doors

Another type of accent cabinet is one that has glass doors. Clear glass panes allow you to easily see what’s inside the cabinet so you don’t have to open it unless it’s necessary. We love this highly-rated one

Accent Cabinets with Shelves

An accent cabinet with shelves is a great way to store linens and other larger objects. I wouldn’t recommend keeping small things on a cabinet with open shelves because it will appear cluttered. This gorgeous piece has wide interior shelving for storage.

Modern Accent Cabinets

Modern accent cabinets and modern chests are hugely popular. With a simple design and a sleek look, these pieces of furniture will remain in style for a very long time, making them great investment pieces. Modern accent cabinets like this top one could be made of wood, glass, metal, or a high quality laminate.

Narrow Accent Cabinets

Narrow accent cabinets are especially useful in the bathroom. Because our bathrooms tend to be small in terms of square feet, these accent chests are perfect for the space. You can store bathroom towels, makeup, Q-tips, tissues, soap, and much more in these narrow pieces of furniture. This one has a gorgeous marble top.

Today, brass bar carts are classy additions to any young professional’s living room. Although you can have them in a family room setting too, it’s rare to see them in homes with children, as the glasses are sometimes hung quite low to the ground.

Let’s take a peek at some highly rated and beautifully designed bar carts. Many of these bar carts will have a similar design: a handle for pushing them, wheels on the bottom, an upper shelf, a lower shelf, and racks for hanging glasses. You will often find them in art deco styles or reminiscent of old Hollywood glamour. There are also many mid-century versions that have been updated to suit modern tastes!

Pls find below some collection of barcarts

How to Choose the Right Bed for Your Bedroom

Beds – we all love them, don’t we? Getting a good night’s rest is paramount to living a productive and healthy life. It’s important to choose a bed that fits your lifestyle and sleeping preferences. You also want a bed that’s comfortable to lounge in on the weekends.

Choosing a bed is kind of like choosing a sofa. There’s so much to consider about this central and important piece of furniture that it can be quite stressful. Beds are often the focus of a bed room because they are usually the largest piece of furniture that goes inside one. Because we use them on a daily basis, we really can’t get away with making the wrong decision and just living with it, the way we could with an accent chair or side table.

If you’re thinking about buying a new bed, then this article will help guide you through the process of selecting the right bed for your bedroom and lifestyle habits!

Bed vs. Headboard

The first step in your bed buying process is to determine whether you would like a bed or a headboard.

Beds are great at ensuring a consistent style of design on the whole piece of furniture from the headboard to the feet. They sometimes require a bit more coordination for the installation and logistics. If you want to move a bed, it’s usually tougher because you would need to take it apart (if you can) and then move each part separately.

On the other hand headboards will require attaching a separate bed frame to hold the mattress. Headboards are easier to move around than beds. You can purchase a bed frame that hides underneath your mattress so that the headboard is the only item that you see around your bed. Relocating a headboard and bed frame is typically easier because all you have to do is detach the headboard from the bed frame itself. You can also change out your headboard pretty easily if you want to change the decor style of your bedroom!

Beds are a bit more luxurious and give the bedroom a more complete look. Some people opt for beds in their master bedroom as it is the largest, and headboards in the secondary bedrooms have less space.

Types of Beds

Platform Bed: Platform Bed are great because they don’t require a box spring. They come in a variety of styles to suit your bedroom decor theme. Platform beds typically sit very low off the ground so you’ll have to buy risers if you need room for storage underneath your bed. Because of their boxy nature, platforms are often associated with mid-century modern design. It is often made of wood and finished in a warm brown hue.

Canopy Beds: Canopy beds are great for bedrooms with high ceilings. Canopy beds feature four poles at each corner of the bed connected by four beams. The beams are sometimes left bare and other times, sheer curtains are hung from them, giving privacy to the bed itself. This is definitely one of the larger choices for a bedroom so make sure your room is quite spacious!

Poster Beds: Poster beds or four-poster beds are made with four poles at each corner. Poster beds date back to the 16th century. The posters at each corner are typically curved, giving them a traditional look.

Sleigh Beds: Sleigh beds have a large, arched headboard and typically a smaller arched footboard. Modern sleigh beds are sometimes without the extra footboard. If you love the old-fashioned look of a sleigh bed, then be prepared to use the extra footage in your bedroom as these beds take up a lot of space!

Trundle Beds: Trundle beds are great for creating an extra bed when you need one for guests. A trundle bed is simply a bed that has a pull-out bed underneath it.

Murphy Beds: Murphy beds are great for guest rooms and small spaces. They are beds that are stored vertically when not in use, and fold down from the wall when needed.

Daybeds: A daybed is a twin-sized bed that can double as a sofa. It works great in narrow rooms, as the long side of the bed is supposed to go against a wall. The headboard and footboard are the same height and do not touch any wall in most cases.

Bunk Beds: Bunk beds are great for guest rooms and kids’ rooms. While the traditional bunk bed was built to accommodate children in two twin-sized beds one on top of the other, these days you can find all sorts of bunk beds to suit your needs! You could find a bunk bed with a full-sized bed underneath or a twin-sized bed rotated to form an L-shaped bed.

Lofted Bed: The lofted bed is great for studios and small spaces. It is similar to the bunk bed, but instead of featuring a second bed on the lower level, it has either an empty space or an attached desk below. This is a great space-optimizing solution for your bedroom or studio.

Bed Materials

Your bed or headboard can be made out of many different materials. Here are a few common ideas for what kind of bed to choose for your home:

Iron Beds

An iron bed is great for a farmhouse bedroom. They give a vintage appeal and look. They are also much easier to clean and take care of than a fabric headboard which tends to attract dust!

1

Wood Beds

Wood beds are great for mid-century and farmhouse bedrooms. The earthy brown colors can evoke an aura of warmth and calmness inside your bedroom.

1

Fabric Beds

Many different fabrics can be used for beds and headboards. This could include velvet, cotton, or linen to name a few! Fabric beds and headboards are great for when you want a comfortable place to lean up against while sitting up in bed.

Bed Accessories

Once you’ve decided on a bed, there are a few bed accessories you’ll need to consider purchasing.

  • Box Spring: Box springs are commonly used for support and height for your mattress. They raise your mattress up so you are not getting in to bed at a very low height from the ground.
  • Mattress: Of course, you can’t purchase a bed without thinking about the mattress you will put on it!
  • Bed Sheets: Several sets of bed sheets will be necessary for your bed, as well. We recommend purchasing linen or cotton sheets for the spring and summer, and flannel sheets for the cold winters!
  • Pillows: It’s a good idea to buy at least two pillows for each bed in your home!

Different Types of Benches with Picture

Most types of benches are intended for outdoor use, though there are some which can be used inside the home. Here we look at the many types of benches in circulation today.

Garden Bench

Benches are commonly found in gardens as a convenient place to sit and admire the surrounding area or to relax and enjoy a book or a beverage. Garden benches typically seat two people comfortably but could fit more at a push. They can be used alone as seating, but they can also be used in conjunction with an outdoor dining table instead of chairs for sitting on.

The material of your garden bench will play a big role in deciding what you use it for. For example, a plastic bench will be lightweight and easily portable and therefore suitable for moving around, whereas a solid wooden bench will be heavy and more likely to remain in one set position. If you have a favorite spot in your garden, then this is the ideal place for a bench to be positioned, where you can make the most of enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of plants or wildlife.

Memorial Bench

A memorial bench is a bench that usually has a plaque on it detailing who the bench has been purchased in memory of or in tribute to. Often when a person dies who loved a particular public outdoor area, such as a local park, the remaining relatives will pay for a memorial bench to put in their favorite spot where they can go to sit and remember the deceased.

Usually, they will not physically buy the bench and install it, and instead, the local authority who owns the land will take care of the details while the family makes a donation in the name of the deceased. The funds will generally be used for the maintenance of the park or other public space where the bench has been situated. A memorial bench is a nice way to immortalize a loved one while also contributing money to a good cause that was close to their heart.

Storage Bench

A storage bench will have four solid sides and a base instead of legs beneath the seat, which provides an ideal space for storing items. The seat will be fitted with hinges that enable it to be lifted up and down to access the items being stored. Storage benches can be bought for indoor or outdoor use. Indoor storage benches are ideal in children’s bedrooms because they can be used to house toys and other clutter in a space where it can’t be seen, and it also doubles up as a nice place for children to sit and read or do some coloring.

Outdoor storage benches will usually be made from a type of plastic because they need to be waterproof in order to keep the items stored inside protected from snow or rainfall. An outdoor storage bench is an ideal place to store outdoor cushions while they are not in use, ensuring that they are in good condition, ready to be used again when the weather improves. Outdoor storage benches can also be used to store garden tools or outdoor children’s toys such as roller skates, skipping ropes, and balls.

These types of storage benches don’t look especially attractive in a garden; however, they look better than having clutter spread out on the lawn or patio, and they also serve the purpose of protecting your items from being destroyed by adverse weather conditions. This type of bench might come in especially useful if you have limited garage space or don’t have a shed.

Planter Bench

A planter bench is a type of bench that has one or more planters attached to it. Some planter benches will have one planter fitted to one end of the bench, while others have a more symmetrical look and have a planter on either end. These types of benches work well on patios, decking, or in courtyard gardens where there aren’t flower beds nearby, as they provide a perfect place for flowers to grow. They can make an unloved backyard look much more vibrant and interesting. They could be used to grow annual flowers, a small tree to provide shade over the bench, or even a herb garden. Planter benches are usually made from wooden planks and can give a backyard a traditional or rustic feel.

Indoor Bench

Indoor benches are often sold in conjunction with dining tables and used as an alternative to dining chairs. They work well for children, especially if you have a large family because you can fit several small children onto a bench in a space that would only have fitted two full-size dining chairs. Indoor benches are generally made from wood and can have a pad fitted to the top for additional comfort. Indoor benches are not just reserved for use in the dining room and also make excellent window seats or additional seating in hallways.

If your porch or entryway is large enough to accommodate it, an indoor bench is well suited to this area of the home as it provides a spot for people to sit down as they are leaving the house or entering the house to take their shoes on or off. This works well because benches are not known for being especially comfortable, but as an occasional seat to put shoes on, they are ideal. The underneath of the bench is also a handy spot to keep shoes out of the way, so they don’t become a trip hazard in the foyer.

.

Curved Bench

Curved benches are a nice addition to corner spaces so that when sitting, you can enjoy the wider area instead of having to face just one way. Curved benches typically curve around at an angle that means people sitting at either side are slightly positioned with their knees facing towards each other. If you want to use your bench for socializing, then a curved bench encourages conversation. There are some types of curved benches which curve in the opposite way so that the occupants at either end would be faced away from each other. These types of benches are usually used around garden features such as ponds, creating a seating area around the pond that runs parallel to it.

Pallet Bench

Pallet benches have become all the rage in recent years as DIY enthusiasts seek to make their own outdoor furniture using old pallets and wooden crates. These benches can look great when constructed properly with a bit of know-how. They can be designed exactly to your liking to fit an exact space you have in mind, and they can be completely customized to your style. They are also free, though you might need to buy screws, paint, sandpaper, and other tools to be able to complete your project.

Some people think that pallet benches look cheap and basic, but they are a good idea if you need some seating on a minimal budget, and they can also look as good as a regular wooden bench if you take some time and care over the build.

Metal Bench

Metal benches are available in a huge variety of styles and using various types of metals. If you don’t want the upkeep associated with wooden or rattan benches, then a metal bench is a good choice. Metal benches stand up well to harsh weather conditions, and if you get bored of the look of it, you can always update it by painting it in exterior metal paint.

Metal benches do tend to cost more money than wooden or rattan benches, but they also typically last much longer, so they are an investment that pays off in the long run. Metal benches are most commonly made using aluminum or iron. They can have very ornate and detailed designs which work well in a vintage-style garden or have a retro or modern design to suit other garden styles.

Wooden Bench

Wood is among the most common materials used to build benches. It is so popular because it is aesthetically pleasing, comfortable to sit on, and affordable. The main issue with wooden benches is that they require annual maintenance to keep them in good condition. They should be stained or painted with a formula intended for exterior wooden surfaces every year in order to protect them from moisture and harsh weather. Without this protection, the wood will begin to rot quite quickly and become structurally compromised as well as look unattractive.

The Bookcase & Bookshelf Buying Guide for the Home

If you are searching for additional storage in your home, consider buying a bookcase. These bulky pieces of furniture might be a pain to assemble, but once you do, they are incredibly helpful in organizing your home.

talk about why bookcases and bookshelves are amazing for home organization and storage

The first thing to know is that there are two kinds of bookcases and bookshelves: built-in bookcases and freestanding ones. The former is built-in to the structure of your home and cannot be moved, while the latter is free to be moved anywhere you like!

Where Are Bookcases Found in the Home?

Don’t be fooled by their name – bookcases can be used in just about every room in your home beyond a home library.

You can use a bookcase on one wall of your living room for example. On it, you can store family photos, coffee table books, precious objects and much more. In the dining room, a bookshelf can be used for displaying your favorite china and serving platters. In the kitchen, it can hold food in your pantry, spices, and jars filled with ingredients like flour or sugar. In the bathroom, a bookcase could hold bath towels and other bathroom necessities.

What Are Bookcases Used For?

A bookcase typically has open shelving, so you’ll want to use it for two main reasons:

  • You want to show off what’s on the shelves
  • You want to store things you use on a daily basis and need easy access

Keep in mind, the open shelving means that these pieces can appear cluttered easily. You’ll want to store larger objects on the shelves to avoid the cluttered look.

Popular Freestanding Bookcases & Bookshelves to Consider Buying

There are many different types of bookcases and bookshelves to consider for your home. Here are the most popular freestanding ones!

By Shape

The shape of your bookcase will certainly stand out. Make sure it fits in with the other furniture in your room. Here are a few popular bookcase shapes:

  • Tall Bookcase – The most standard bookcase shape is the tall bookcase which stands taller than most people. It will take up little floor space and give you lots of storage.
  • Horizontal Bookcase – On the other hand, some people prefer a low to the ground horizontal bookcase so that they can put larger objects on top like table lamps and televisions. The storage of this type of bookshelf is lower and more spread out.
  • Barrister Bookcase – Barrister bookcases are a very old type of furniture piece. This bookcase is crafted from several separate shelf units which are stacked together to form a single cabinet. You can move each unit by itself and carry it on its own without needing to remove the contents. This is very useful when you’re transporting heavy objects like a group of books!

By Color and Material

The visual aspects of a bookcase are very important to everyone living in your home. The material will determine how long your piece of furniture will last. These are the trends we’ve seen for bookcase colors and materials.

  • White Bookcases – An easy choice that will go well with many rooms. The white finish will reflect light, creating a luminous space.
  • Metal Bookcases – Sturdy and strong, a bookcase made of metal is sure to last a long time.
  • Solid Wood Bookcases – Everyone loves solid wood furniture and bookcases are no exception.

By Size

The size of your bookcase will determine how much you can store inside.

  • Shallow Bookcases – If you have a small apartment, then a shallow bookcase will be perfect. Smaller spaces will benefit from the storage without taking up lots of square footage.
  • Oversized Bookcases – On the flip side, if you live in the country or have a large area to work with, an oversized bookcase might suit your needs. Keep in mind, a larger piece of furniture like this will certainly be a focal point in your room. It will probably overpower the other pieces inside it! This would be great for a home library.

By Style

The style and visual appearance of your bookcase must fit in with your existing home decor style. If you aren’t married to just one interior design style, then go with one of these popular furniture styles:

  • Mid-Century Modern Bookcases – The mid-century look has been coming back into style. Places like Palm Springs and television shows like Mad Men made it attractive again, I guess!
  • Modern & Contemporary Bookcases – Most people want to live in modern and contemporary homes. Your furniture design should reflect that easy design aesthetic.
  • Farmhouse Bookcases – If you have country style home and love rustic furniture, then a Farmhouse style bookshelf is the way to go!

By Number of Shelves

The number of shelves in a bookcase is important to many people. For some reason, many people like odd or even numbered shelves! I’m not sure why, but these are the most popular numbers of shelves to have on your bookcase!

  • 5 shelf bookcases
  • 3 shelf bookcases
  • 4 shelf bookcases

I hope this bookcase buying guide was useful in making your decision!

This is our epic chair guide where we explain in detail the 37 different types of chairs you can get for your home. Living room, dining room and more.

I’m a big fan of chairs. While I love a comfortable sofa, especially a sectional sofa, my first choice for seating in any room is a large, deep-seated chair that I sink into, deep and comfortable.

However, just like with most other furniture options, we all have our own chair preferences. These various preferences have resulted over the decades in a great many types of chairs, all different in design, and in some cases, function.

In order to get a solid understanding of all your chair options, we decided to put together this massive chair buying guide, which sets out many different styles of chairs you can purchase for your home.

I. Chairs Around the Home

Your home should be a space where you can relax, unwind, and enjoy life. That’s why it’s essential to have comfortable chairs throughout the house on which you can sit. No matter which room you’re shopping for, you have plenty of options of chair types available to you.

A. Types of Living Room Chairs

Of all the rooms in a home, it’s most important to have comfortable, stylish chairs in the living area. The living room is where the family gathers, where you enjoy company, and you binge-watch your favorite show. Make sure the living room chairs you choose are up to these tasks.

You are not limited only to using cozy couches in your living space. You can choose from all kinds of seating, such as armchairs, recliners, ottomans, round chairs, loveseats, and club chairs. Whatever your style, you have many different options for your living room seating.

1. Armchair

Evan Davis once said, “A chair’s function is not just to provide a place to sit; it is to provide a medium for self-expression.” An armchair is one of the best and easiest ways to express your personal style in your living room, just as Davis suggested.

Armchairs can be wonderful accent chairs, that can provide an outlet for expressing creativity while also providing additional and comfortable seating. Armchairs seat just one person at a time, unlike their couch and loveseat cousins. They come in all sorts of styles – from contemporary, to traditional, and every style in between.

When it’s time to buy an arm chair, budget to spend at least $200. Many of these seating chair types start at this price and often go up from there. Some armchairs even cost over $1,000.

2. Recliner

The recliner feels like a modern innovation, and in some respects, it is. However, some historians believe that Napoleon Bonaparte owned the first version of this relaxing chair type. Luckily, designers have made great strides in the design of the recliner since Napoleon’s time.

Recliners are the epitome of comfort in a home. These chair types can come in leather or cloth upholstery, with manual or electronic mechanisms, and plenty of different styles. You can also find these chairs in all kinds of colors, even patterns, like camouflage.

Certain recliners are a perfect option for people who struggle to get out of chairs from time to time. These lift-assist recliners make it easier for people with certain disabilities to be more independent in their homes.

3. Contemporary Round Chair

Feeling boxed in by traditional chair choices? If so, the contemporary round chair might be a perfect chair type for you. These oversized seats often have a width around 58 inches and cushion depths around 30 inches. Those dimensions make for a perfect snuggling or relaxing chair, perfect for curling up in with a good book and a blanket!

The shape of these chairs make them great accent pieces, as well. Round chairs come in all sorts of fabric coverings, but most often use suede or leather upholstery. Most contemporary round chairs also come in neutral colors, although some add a little pop of brighter shades and hues. One of the more expensive chair types, these seats will set you back about $350 to $700.

The slipper chair is an armless accent chair with a seat that is low to the ground. This armless chair, with its high chair back, rose to popularity in the Victorian era. Slipper chairs got their name during this time, as these chairs were used to make it easy for upper-class ladies to sit and put on their shoes or slippers.

A slipper chair is unique from the other living room chairs listed here because it is an armless chair with a high chair back and low seat. Many slipper chairs truly embrace their identity as an “accent chair,” coming in a plethora of colors, patterns, and styles, from the neutral to the outlandish. Because the slipper chair is an armless chair, it can be a wonderful choice for those with small living spaces, because their lack of arms means that these chairs tend to take up less space than chairs with arms do.

h. Ottoman / Lounge Chairs

Sit back, relax, and kick your feet up with a comfortable ottoman. As you may expect, the origins of this type of furniture date back to the Ottoman Empire of the 1700s. Since then, these footstools have become multi-functional, cost-effective mainstays in living rooms around the world.

Many ottomans serve not only as a resting place for tired feet, but also as extra storage and a coffee table. Sometimes, the top of an ottoman can come off to reveal that the other side is wood or plastic – perfect for use as a coffee table. An ottoman may also be hollowed out in the middle for blanket, pillow, and other item storage.

Best of all, an ottoman can serve as additional seating when guests are visiting and seating is limited. Because ottomans range from $20 to over $100 in price, this makes an ottoman one of the best ways to add seating to your home.

See our huge collection of accent chairs with matching ottoman here.

i. Chesterfield Chair

Most people think “sofa” when Chesterfield style comes up, but there are Chesterfield style chairs in existence, too. Chesterfield chairs look just like the sofa with which they share a name, except that they are smaller, seating only one person at a time. The key element in a Chesterfield design is its tufted upholstery. In fact, the tufted upholstery of a Chesterfield chair is its defining element. This is due to the fact that there are Chesterfield styles that fall under other styles such as a wingback chair – in which case, the chair would be considered a wingback chair with tufted upholstery.

B. Dining Chairs

While we cover the main dining chair styles here, if you wish to get a better understanding of more dining chair types, check out our detailed article setting out the many different types of dining room chairs.

The dining area in a home can be a great place for a family to connect. As you enjoy meals together, you should sit in comfort so that you can focus on the people who surround you. That’s why it’s important to find the perfect dining room chairs, both in terms of style and comfort.

Whether you need seating for a kitchen island, places for guests to gather around the dining room table, or both, there are plenty of options for you available. These dining chairs come in all sorts of styles, so take a look and see what may be right for you and your needs.

1. Bar Stool

There are many types of bar stools to choose from. If you have a high-top table or an island with an overhang, you most likely need bar stools to fit in this space. Bar stools can come in many different heights, so it’s crucial for you to measure your table or counter before purchasing barstools.

Some barstools have adjustable heights, while others stay at one height. Some rotate, and others do not. Some barstools are true stools with no back, and others have varying back heights, from low and minimal to high and supportive. It’s important to consider all these options before making a decision.

Online, you can find bar stools that cost anywhere from about $50 to $100. Whether you prefer bar stools that are ultra-modern or with farmhouse charm, there is a perfect barstool for you on the market.

2. Wishbone Chair

For a mid-century look at your dining room table, you can choose chairs in the wishbone style. Wishbone chairs are often made from wood, with a cushioned or wicker seat. Their defining characteristic is the support up the middle of the back that splits like a wishbone shape.

These chair styles also curve around the back to add extra support for the seated person. Wishbones chairs typically come in neutral colors, but you can find them in bright colors as well. Wishbone style bar stools that match wishbone dining chairs are also available from many retailers.

A well-made wishbone chair can cost anywhere between $150 and $350. These chairs are usually no more than 20 inches wide, which make them perfect for dining room tables everywhere, but especially for smaller dining spaces.

3. Ghost Chair

Don’t be fooled by the name of this chair style. A ghost chair isn’t haunted; it’s just made from clear plastic. Ghost chairs are the perfect dining room accessories for any ultra-modern home. You can purchase these chairs with or without arms, in sets of two and four, and in varying heights.

Some ghost chairs have metal or wood accents on their legs. These accents can add dimension and interest to a dining room set. Looking to bring this chair style to other parts of the home? Some ghost chairs make great accent chairs in a living room or an office.

A ghost chair can be a perfect addition to a small room and/or a room that receives limited natural light. Because they seem to disappear before the eye, they don’t block natural light or create too much visual clutter.

The prices on ghost chairs aren’t too spooky, either. They usually cost between $75 and $125 each.

4. Side Chair

The side chair is probably the most common dining room chair option purchased and used in most home dining room sets.

It’s difficult, if not impossible, to fit armed chairs around a typical dining table. While an end chair may have room for to have armrests, the middle of the table often doesn’t have enough space for chairs with arms. That’s where side chairs come in. These seating solutions are armless dining chairs. A side chair’s lack of arms mean that it takes up less space, so more can be fit around a table.

You can find sides chairs made from metal, wood, or even plastic. They come in any number of colors and styles. The prices of side chairs reflect the variety of styles in which they are available. You can buy a side chair for a price that is anywhere from $70 to $300.

C. Office Chairs

If you do any work from home or use your home office regularly, it’s vital to have a comfortable office chair in which to sit. You don’t have to sacrifice style to achieve comfort, however. You can find task chairs, like reading, desk, or gaming chairs, that fit your decor and are comfortable to use.

1. Reading Chair

Logan Pearsall Smith once said, “People say that life is the thing, but I prefer reading.” If you’re the type of person who loves to read, you know how vital a good reading chair is to an office. Reading chairs can be armchairs, recliners, or  even a lounge chair with an ottoman. An essential feature of a great reading chair is its comfort.

Reading chairs should invite you in and envelope you once you’re sitting in them. Like the books you read, you should never want to leave your favorite reading chair. A stylish and inviting reading chair can cost between $150 and $300, depending on the features you desire. No matter the style of your office, you can find a reading chair that fits it perfectly.

2. Desk Chair

A desk chair is a type of task chair that provides comfort while you work at a home desk. There are several different types of desk chair from which you can choose. Here is a list of a few desk chair types:

  • Executive Office Chairs: These desk chairs provide premium comfort.
  • Ergonomic Desk Chairs: These desk chairs are designed to fit your body for maximum, personalized comfort.
  • Drafting Chairs: These are basic office chairs with improved movement abilities.
  • Banker’s Chairs: These desk chairs are usually made from wood, and have arms and armrests.
  • Office Stools: These desk seating options have no arms or back.
  • Alternative: One desk chair alternative is a stability ball, though there are others, as well.

The type of task chair you need will depend on how you use your desk. If you only use your home desk to pay bills occasionally, you may want just an ergonomic chair, which is typically quite affordable. However, if you work for several hours a day at your desk, you may prefer an executive chair. If you’re short on space, a stool that can be stored under the desk when you aren’t using it can be an ideal solution.

See our types of desk chairs here.

D. Outdoor Chairs

Creating a perfect outdoor space for entertaining family and other loved ones means setting a relaxing atmosphere and providing the correct seating for everyone on your guest list. There are several types of outdoor chairs to choose from, or you can even mix and match outdoor chair styles.

1. Folding Chair

If you host backyard parties and barbeques, you need plenty of seating for all the guests that attend. Folding chairs can be a cost-effective solution for your next party. As the name suggests, these chairs fold up for easy and space-saving storage.

A folding chair is usually made of plastic, metal, or some combination of the two. You can purchase folding chairs for as little as $14 each. Using folding chairs is a great way to accommodate all your guests at once, without taking up too much space when they are not being used.

2. Chaise Lounge Chairs

While your outdoor space can be wonderful for entertaining guests, it’s also perfect for relaxing alone or in small, intimate groups. A chaise lounge can be the perfect place to soak in the sun and spend time relaxing outdoors. These chairs extend outward, so that the legs of the person sitting in it are propped up on it. The backs of these chairs lean, to hold you in the perfect, most peaceful position.

Some chaise lounges are equipped with outdoor cushions that can withstand the elements. The base of a chaise lounge is often made from wood, metal, or plastic. You can choose chaise lounges that adjust to several different positions; some even extend so that you can lie all the way down.

Hang out by the pool, get a tan, or read a great book with a chaise lounge. Please note that not all chaise lounges are meant to remain outdoors, as some designers have adapted the classic chaise for indoor use only.

3. Wicker Chairs

If you want an outdoor chair that makes a statement, a wicker chair set is precisely what you need. The wicker used in these chairs can withstand all kinds of outdoor conditions. Plus, wicker chairs also often come with specialized cushions that are treated to withstand different weather conditions.

Most often, wicker chairs come in neutral colors like white, brown, and black. These chairs are also usually sold as part of a set. You can expect to pay between $150 and $300 per chair. But, remember that wicker chairs are built to last much longer than some other outdoor furniture pieces are, making them ultimately worth the up-front investment.

4. Camping Chairs

Chairs don’t have to stay at home! If you’re going camping or tailgating, you may wish to buy and bring camping chairs with you. These polyester chairs fold up into smaller packages, so they fit in your vehicle quite easily. Then, when you’re ready, camping chairs quickly fold out into a comfortable place to sit.

Camping chairs come in all kinds of colors and patterns. You can even grab a camping chair with your favorite team’s logo – perfect for tailgating! You can often find camping chairs for as little as $10 apiece, making them one of the cheapest and most portable sitting solutions around.

5. Hammock

Are you not sure if you want a hammock or a chair in your outdoor space? Get the best of both worlds with a hammock chair, also called a hanging chair. These comfortable chairs sway like hammocks, but they are easier to get in and out of than a hammock typically is.

Most hammock chairs come with weather-proofed cushions that make outdoor time particularly relaxing. You can choose cushions in all kinds of bright colors and patterns.

These relaxing hanging chairs can cost anywhere between $30 and $50. They provide plenty of comfort and style considering their low price.

E. Children’s and Baby Chairs

If you have little ones in your home or one (or even two!) on the way, you may need to make some adjustments to your sitting situation. A rocking chair or kid-sized seats can be a welcome addition for any family, whether children have been around or are about to arrive.

1. Rocking Chair

“Rock-a-bye baby” isn’t a common and well-loved lullaby for no reason. Babies and toddlers love it when their parents rock them, especially when it’s time to close their little eyes and sleep. That’s why every nursery needs a rocking chair. It’s a game-changer for kids and parents alike.

The most unique feature about rocking chairs is their ability to rock back and forth, creating a soothing motion. This motion can calm fussy babies, though scientists aren’t exactly sure why yet. Rocking chairs can be plush with armrests, or they can be more minimalist. Many have cloth coverings, but some are leather. Still others are made from wood and are more traditional in style.

The two most important factors to remember when purchasing a rocking chair is that you should feel comfortable in it, and that the rocking chair must fit in your space. You can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $500 for one of these nursery must-haves.

2. Glider Chair

The glider chair is similar to a rocking chair, but the motion it allows is more even than that of a rocking chair, in that the seated person;s head doesn’t tilt down and up and back again. Instead, the motion generated while in a glider chair is more of a back and forth motion, rather than a rocking motion. The gliding motion makes it easier to feed and/or nurse babies, yet still provide a subtle rocking motion to soothe tired little ones.

Another interesting feature when it comes to glider chairs is that their ottoman glides as well, allowing the entire body to glide with baby effortlessly and incredibly smoothly – which is important when trying to get a baby to sleep (been there done that many, many times)!

3. Chairs for Kids

Does your child like to do everything you do? Do they crave things that are only theirs? Children love to do things that their parents do independently, and they love to feel that they have something that is wholly their own. That’s why kid-sized chairs are essential. Create a space that’s just the right size for your child using these cool seats.

Almost every type of chair that comes in adult sizes comes in smaller, child-friendly sizes too. Kids’ rocking chair? Sure! Child-size arm chair? Why not? You can even get a desk chair for the little boss in your life, so they can sit at a tiny desk and draw or paint. Get something just like your favorite chair to make your child feel like a big shot.

Child-sized chairs can cost anywhere from approximately $30 to upwards of $100. The price of a kids’ chair depends on the style and needs it supports.

F. Gaming Chairs

Do you live for video games or know someone who does? Gaming chairs are perfect for avid video gamers. For console players, chairs like the one pictured above can position you in front of a television perfectly. Some gaming chairs even have built-in speakers to enhance the gamer’s experience.

Are you more of a PC player? No problem. Some desk chairs come equipped with special features for gamers. These gamer chairs are ergonomic, high-tech, and completely comfortable. No matter your game, you can usually find the right gamer chair for between $50 and $150.

II. 26 Chair Back Styles

You just might be surprised by how many chair back styles there are. Here’s a terrific infographic setting out all the different styles of chair backs:

III. Chair Materials

Furniture makers can use all kinds of materials to create a beautiful chair. Some chairs are upholstered in leather, cotton, or polyester, while others are made from metal, wood, or plastic. Often, chairs combine these materials for more a textured and interesting look.

A. Upholstered Chairs

Upholstered chairs use either leather, cotton, or polyester to cover the cushions that make the chair comfortable. Check out the features and benefits of each type of upholstery.

1. Leather

There’s a reason that leather is synonymous with luxury. You can find genuine and faux leather on all kinds of chairs – from rocking chairs, to loveseats, and more.

Pros of Leather Upholstery:

  • Easy to clean
  • Non-staining
  • Comfortable

Cons of Leather Upholstery:

  • Typically more expensive
  • Must use special cleaner to maintain it
  • Can get hot in the summer

If you want to add a classic, comfortable look to your home, consider adding a leather chair.

2. Cotton

Cotton is the fabric that everyone knows and loves. People use it in clothes, towels, and more. So, why not use it on chairs as well?

Pros of Cotton Upholstery:

  • Feels pleasant to the touch and against skin
  • Comes in many colors and patterns
  • Durable
  • Easy to care for

Cons of Cotton Upholstery:

  • Colors and patterns can fade in sunlight
  • Must be treated, or it will be flammable

If you love using and wearing cotton in your everyday life, consider this type of upholstered chair. Whether you need side chairs, seats for little ones, or an accent chair, there is probably a cotton version of whatever chair style you need that is perfect for you.

3. Polyester

If you want an upholstered chair for your outdoor space, you will probably need to choose a polyester chair. This tough fabric can stand up against almost any weather and look great doing it. Many cushions on wicker chairs are covered in polyester, as are the cushions on many hammock chairs. Polyester chairs come in a variety of colors, shapes, and styles, so it should be wasy to find one you love.

B. Metal

If you love a more industrial look, you may need to add a few metal chairs in your home. These durable seats look great and come in plenty of shapes, colors, and sizes. Most often, you can find metal chairs used in a dining area or at a kitchen island. Best of all, you can buy a metal chair for as little as $40 or as much as $90, making them a truly affordable seating option.

C. Wood

Are you building your farmhouse dream home? Maybe you love the traditional decor style. Both of these decor styles, and many others, incorporate wood chairs. Whether you want wood in your kitchen, dining room, office, or all of the above, there is most likely a wood chair to fit whatever need you have.

Pros:

  • Sturdy
  • Beautiful
  • Come in many styles and finishes

Cons:

  • Require special cleaners to maintain
  • Can fade over time in the sun
  • Can be difficult to remove stains from

D. Plastic

Plastic is a standard material in outdoor, dining, children’s, and corporate chairs. Because plastic is so cheap to produce, chairs made using this material often cost less than their wood or metal counterparts. Plastic chairs are simple and easy to clean and maintain – often, all you have to do is wipe away the mess.

There are some downsides to buying and using plastic chairs. First of all, they tend to be less comfortable than wood and upholstered versions. Secondly, many can look cheap. However, some plastic chairs can be more high-end. For example, the use of the ghost chair is a significant and current trend, and these chair types are made from clear plastic.

The last downside to plastic chairs is that some can be flimsy. When searching for a plastic chair or chairs, it’s important to look for pieces that are made to withstand use.

IV. Unique Features

Sometimes, you just need to shop based on what a chair can do. Believe it or not, some chairs are made for more than just sitting in and relaxing! Some can offer storage, while others can convert to a bed, and some can even swivel.

A. Storage

What if your chair could help put an end to clutter around your home? Certain chairs and ottomans have secret storage compartments that allow you to cut down on visual clutter and keep things looking nice and tidy.

The most common type of storage seating is the ottoman. Ottomans can function as extra seating, a place to rest tired feet, additional storage, and sometimes also coffee tables. If you prefer functional furniture, this might be the type of seating for you.

However, ottomans don’t keep all the glory. Some arm chairs have storage, too! Keep your favorite blankets out of sight until it’s time to break them out, or store pillows in these chairs when their space is needed.

B. Convertible Chair

If you don’t have the room for a guest bed and don’t want a heavy sleeper sofa, you can invest in a convertible chair for your occasional guests. These comfortable chairs look attractive when upright, and can fold into a bed when needed.

Forget what you think you know about futons and convertible chairs. These pieces of furniture have come a long way in recent years. Nowadays, futons and convertible chairs can be relaxing as traditional chairs and beds! These are truly functional pieces of furniture that also look great.

You can sometimes find convertible chairs for around $170, and they typically cost up to about $350. When you think about it, that’s a great price for what is essentially two pieces of furniture!

C. Swivel Chair

You likely know that Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence and was the third President of the United States. However, did you know that this founding father was also an inventor? That’s right, Mr. Jefferson invented the swivel chair in 1775, smack in the middle of the American Revolution.

The swivel chair has come quite a long way since the American Revolutionary War. These days, even comfortable, cushioned arm chairs can swivel. These chairs can be fun additions to a living room, and can come in many shapes, colors, and fabrics. Typically, a swivel chair is only meant to hold one person.

Some swivel chairs are more suited for use in offices, making them a type of desk or task chair. Other types of swivel chairs are great for outdoor use.

10 Types of Home Office Desks to Consider

Office desks are typically the main piece of furniture inside a home office. They are the primary focus of the room and thus deserve special attention and consideration when you go about choosing one.

The right office desk will help you be more productive and better organized at home.

Choosing a Home Office Desk

The first thing to consider is what the purpose of your desk will be. Is it for writing, using a laptop, using a computer monitor, organizing files, or other purposes? Do you work from home full-time or will the desk only be used occasionally?

The purpose of your home office working space will determine the size and storage needs of your desk.

Next up, you need to decide where your desk will be located. Do you have a dedicated home office? Do you plan to put a desk in your bedroom? What about in the kitchen? There are many different places you can put an office desk, so be sure to measure the space available before purchasing your desk so you know what you have to work with.

Home Office Desk Types

Here are the main types of office desks you will find online.

Executive

The executive desk is the most standard desk available with ample storage options. It’s large enough for working on complicated tasks, yet not the largest option available. In my opinion, it’s the perfect happy-medium office desk! Executive desks often have a large rectangular working surface. Underneath, there is room to sit and on either side, you’ll find several drawers and cabinets for hidden storage.

Shell

Shell desks are simple, three-sided desks with little to no storage underneath. They are typically rectangular shaped and offer plenty of open space beneath the surface.

Writing

Writing desks tend to be on the smaller side. They are meant for light use, hence the name “writing.” They are typically made of a thin rectangular writing surface and four legs, with open space beneath. Sometimes a small drawer is found beneath the writing surface.

Foldable

Foldable desks are great for temporary desk needs or desks that need to be moved around often. Foldable desks have a surface that can easily fold down into a thin piece. They can be stored more easily inside a closet.

Secretary

Secretary desks are a vintage piece of furniture, that has since been redesigned and developed for modern appeal. Secretary desks have an upper board that folds down to form a writing surface. It typically hides little cubbies and drawers where small objects can be stored. When the surface is no longer needed, it folds back up for storage.

Floating

Floating desks are installed directly onto the wall. They have no legs, so it is not wise to store heavy objects on them. Some of them fold down, while others are permanently mounted so they stick out all the time. They are space-saving options for minimalist rooms.

Leaning/Ladder

Leaning desks, or ladder desks, are vertically oriented desks that offer multiple levels of storage. They resemble a ladder leaning against the wall, hence their name.

Corner/L-Shaped

Corner desks, or L-shaped desks, are great for large offices or just somewhere you want to have extra work space. This a heavy-duty work desk that is meant for professionals. Of course, you can also find small corner desks that are shaped like triangles and meant for small workspaces.

Height Adjustable

Height adjustable desks are becoming more popular as people realize that they are too tall for their desk or they prefer to work standing up! Height adjustable desks mean you can raise or lower a desktop to suit your needs. The best thing is that they can be used while sitting down or standing up.

Standing

Standing desks are all the rage for people who work from home. Sitting isn’t the healthiest thing to do all day, so standing desks provide a way for you to work while standing. They are great for at-home workers or people who want to stay healthy while working at a desk.

Home Office Desk Storage

Depending on your needs, you may wish to consider the following office desk storage options for your setup:

  • Drawers: Drawers can be found on office desks either beneath or to the sides.
  • Hutch: Some desks feature upper storage above the main surface level of the desk.
  • Slide-out Keyboard Drawer: Desks specifically made for computer use may feature a lower slide-out drawer to hold a keyboard.

Of course, many other separate products are available to purchase if you need more storage for your desk.

How to Buy the Perfect Headboard for your Bedroom

When it comes to decorating the central piece of furniture in your bedroom, you may be considering a headboard. Headboards are a great way to show off your personal decorative style. They are typically easier to install than a large frame bed, and add just as much charm if you choose the right one.

Headboards are not only pretty, but they are functional too. Headboards hold the mattress and bed frame in place, so they don’t slide around as you get in and out of bed. They also provide back support if you want to sit up while in bed. Overall, they’re a great money saving choice for decorating a functional bedroom.

Types of Headboards

There are many different types and styles of headboards to choose from during your design process. The most popular options are:

Upholstered Headboards

Upholstered headboard are soft boards that can be upholstered in a variety of fabrics from linen, to cotton, velvet or even polyester. The surface might be smooth or tufted.

Wood Headboards

Wood headboards can come in a variety of styles, and give your bedroom a rustic feel. Sometimes wood headboards frame upholstered sections, and other times they are just solid wood. These are hard so you’ll need pillows to rest against one comfortably.

Iron & Metal Headboards

A wrought iron headboard will add a vintage, industrial feel to your bedroom. They look beautiful, but again, you’ll need plenty of pillows for this kind of headboard if you want to sit up in bed and read.

Rattan & Cane Headboards

Cane back headboards are often found in French style bedrooms. Rattan is a great material for coastal headboards. They are not too hard, but not as soft as an upholstered headboard either.

What to Consider Before Buying a Headboard

There are a few things you need to ask before buying a headboard. Namely, you want to make sure it’s something you really want. Reflect on the headboard you choose. Don’t purchase it on a whim, as you’ll have to see this headboard every night before bed!

Ask the retailer if the headboard comes with a warranty. Headboards made of synthetic materials are more likely to break down, and the last thing you want is to have to change out your headboard shortly after installing it.

You’ll also want to make sure the headboard you choose can fit through your home’s doors, stairways and walkways. You would be surprised how large headboards can be when packaged, and the last thing you want to do is bang up your home trying to get it to the bedroom!

A vanity table is meant to hold vanity items, such as a mirror, makeup, brush, and perfume bottles. This piece of furniture is typically placed in a bedroom or any room designed for dressing up, like a walk-in closet.

Vanity tables are usually made of wood or glass. Wooden vanity tables are often preferred not only because of their beauty but durability as well. On the other hand, glass vanity tables are gaining popularity because they are stylish, plus they come in a variety of colors.

Wall-Mounted Table

As its name implies, a wall-mounted table is installed on a wall. As such, it can be a great piece of furniture for those who don’t have a lot of space. The reason is that you can use this table in various ways. When not in use, you can simply fold it, allowing you to save some floor space. Aside from that, mounting a table on your wall is not only functional. It can also make a boring wall visually appealing. Best of all, this type of table is affordable.

Workbench

A workbench may not have the style of other types of tables on this list. The reason is that it is designed for one purpose, which is to help you do your work. As such, this piece of furniture will only fit in the right environment, like your workshop.

Despite being simple in design, a work table is sturdy and durable. Aside from that, it also comes in various shapes and sizes, from a small corner table to a huge workbench.

Based on Material

Solid Wood Table

A solid wood table is a piece of furniture made with natural wood. As such, this type of table is not only durable. It also radiates a natural beauty that will surely make your room visually appealing. Plus, solid wood is easy to maintain. Once broken, you can also repair it with ease. Remember, most forms of damage on this material can be fixed by sanding it.

One downside for a solid wood table is the atmospheric pressure that can cause the wood to expand, resulting in splits and cracks. To avoid this, it is highly recommended not to expose your solid wood table to direct sunlight for a long period.

Wood Veneer Table

A wood veneer table is made with a thin layer of wood that is glued to a base material, creating a table that resembles a solid wood table. Keep in mind that the base material used to make this furniture is cheaper than wood; thus, it is not as durable as solid wood.

Because a wood veneer table is not made with natural wood, it is more affordable than a solid wood table. Aside from that, it is also environmentally friendly, and it is less prone to warping and splintering.

Despite its benefits, a wood veneer table has some flaws. For instance, the wood may absorb liquids, especially if it is not coated with polish. Remember, once a wood veneer table is damaged, repairs can be difficult and costly.

Marble Table

Marble is made with limestone that has undergone intense heat and pressure, leading to discoloration and patterns in the stone. As such, a marble table is one of the most beautiful types of table. In fact, it can add luxury to any room. Additionally, it is also durable, and it will last for a long time, especially when with proper care.

Keep in mind that marble is resistant to scratches and stains. For this reason, it is best to always use a coaster when placing drinks on this type of table. Re-sealing it from time to time is also recommended. Remember, marble is a porous material; thus, it is prone to moisture absorption. With proper maintenance, marble tables can definitely last for a long time, and they can be enjoyed by future generations.

Laminate Table

Laminate tables are among the cheapest types of tables. This material is made by pressing several layers of heavy-duty paper with melamine, which eventually hardens into a resin. The beauty of using laminate is that it can be printed with a decorative design. Usually, manufacturers print a wood grain design. As a result, the laminate table will look like a wooden table.

Even though a laminate table is cheap, it is quite durable. Plus, it is resistant to stains and scratches. Also, this type of table is easy to clean. The downside for this type of table is that it is not as sturdy as solid wood. Plus, it doesn’t have the natural beauty of wood.

Metal Table

A metal table has a stylish design that makes it a great addition to a modern room. Typically, metal is used to make dining tables, study tables, and work tables.

A metal table has numerous advantages. Aside from being stylish, this type of table is also sturdy and durable. Plus, it is also waterproof and fireproof. Another perk of opting for a metal table is that it is easy to clean and maintain. Best of all, metal tables occupy less space compared to wooden tables.

Despite being a great piece of furniture, a metal table is heavy. As such, you won’t be able to move this furniture around with ease.

Glass Table

Keep in mind that a glass table is not made entirely with glass. Typically, it has a metal or wooden base, while its surface is glass.

One of the greatest advantages of choosing a  glass table is that it can make your room look elegant, making it a nice addition to a room with a contemporary design. Aside from that, glass can create the illusion of space. As such, it can make your room look more spacious.

Glass tables are certainly the epitome of elegance and style. However, this type of table is prone to smudges that can throw off its pristine appearance. Additionally, it is also high maintenance. Also, this type of furniture is a bit expensive.

Based on Style
