Class VIII boy drowns in canal near Kanchi
A 13-year-old schoolboy drowned in a canal near Kancheepuram while playing with friends. Despite search operations, his body was found the next day. In other incidents, a 45-year-old man was found dead in a canal in Berhampur, and a 12-year-old child drowned while fishing in Durg district. The use of SCADA technology is being expanded in Rajasthan to improve water management in dams, including the Indira Gandhi Canal. Heavy rainfall has also caused other dams in India to open.
Three of a family drown in Sargur canal
Three members of a family drowned in a canal in Mysuru district while washing clothes. Muhammad Kapil, his wife Sahara Banu, and sister-in-law Thahira Tabassum were visiting their native village when the incident occurred. In a separate incident, a man was fatally knocked down by a bus while crossing a road in Nanjangud. The police are investigating both cases.
Body of youth found in canal
The body of a missing youth, Gurmukh Singh, was found in a canal in Ludhiana, Punjab. Gurmukh had jumped into the canal and had been missing for three days. His father reported that he left home with Rs 1,000 and rented a room in a nearby village. His clothes and a liquor bottle were found near the canal bank. In other news, three members of a family drowned in a canal in Mysuru, and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar expressed support for the construction of the Satluj-Yamuna Link canal.
