Narrated by Gabriella Bennett
The afternoon I leave Marwick Street, it’s as if summer remembers its name. Sunlight peels through the bay window, drawing rectangles of gold on the floor. The fireplace tiles take on a brilliant green, far brighter than I ever remember. The rooms look so big without any of my stuff. I think to myself, have I made a terrible mistake?
I have been putting off selling this flat for quite some time. Truth is, I’ve not felt ready until now. I moved away to rented accommodation with my partner after failing to make two people and a lot of belongings fit inside. And the dog. Oh God, the dog. I can’t remember a day when we weren’t woken by her howls at some imagined noise
