A WIDOW who forked out £15,000 for a new kitchen days before the firm went bust has been given a brand new one.
Caroline McVicar, 72, gave her life savings to DM Design for the work at her home.
But the Hamilton pensioner was left waiting for workers to show up.
She told The Daily Record how she was left with a "shell" of a kitchen after handing over the cash.
Gran-of-five Caroline then learned the Cumbernauld-based firm had gone into liquidation.
The company stopped trading and 31 workers lost their jobs.
The mum-of-gran was left "gutted" by the news and said: “It’s all the money I’ve got.
“I’ve been left high and dry.”
But some big-hearted Scots came to Caroline's rescue after learning about her story.
Lesley and Craig Douglas, who run Paisley-based firm Instyle Kitchens and Bathrooms, got in touch and offered to finish her kitchen for FREE.
Leslie said: “£15,000 is an awful lot of money. We’d hate for that to happen to one of our elderly relatives so wanted to do something to help.
“We’re just delighted we’re able to help her out and offer support when she needs it.”
Caroline said Instyle workers will be coming next week to begin the work on her kitchen.
She said: “I’m so happy and really grateful.
“This has restored my faith in others."
FRP Advisory were appointed as administrators for DM Designs on March 8.
They have said the firm suffered a significant drop in sales and was hammered by rising costs.
