AN Ikea interior designer has revealed how you can recreate a showroom cheaply.
She said she has a 60-30-10 rule and it will improve your home aesthetic.
Mahnaz Heidari Orojloo, an interior design expert at Ikea, said her rule works as a trick to balance primary and accent colors.
Creating a mood board can help give you the new home look that many crave.
You can start by choosing a color scheme, key pieces of furniture, and artwork, and thinking about lighting and textures.
“Keeping to a consistent style and color scheme throughout the property ensures a cohesive look and feel across the home," Orojiloo said.
“Instagram and Pinterest are perfect for inspiration online, and good old-fashioned interior design magazines and brochures are brilliant too," she added.
Orojiloo, who has been working with Ikea for more than seven years, said obtaining balance is one of the main goals.
“A professionally designed show home will combine elements of luxury, functionality, and style," she said.
It's also important for the home to look like its style is something that's attainable for everyone.
"When we are designing show homes we’re showcasing tips and tricks for buyers that can be easily replicated in their own homes," she said.
Adding the right furniture and mirrors can make a space seem larger.
"Multifunctional furniture is particularly useful in small spaces because it can serve multiple purposes without the space becoming cluttered," the designer shared.
Lastly, it all comes down to the 60-30-10 ratio.
"Sixty percent of the room has the background color, 30% is in a secondary color and 10% has an accent color," Orojiloo shared.
If you need some inspiration, the designer said plenty of examples can be found online.
At the end of the day, design your home in a way that makes you happy.
“Color is such a personal choice and we all have our own favorites," the Ikea designer said.
"Choose colors you love and that make you feel good," she finished.
More people could be hiring interior designers in the future.
The market is expected to rise by 4% between 2018 and 2028, the US Bureau of Labor Statistics said, per Foyr.
