AN INTERIOR designer has spoken out against the simple decor mistakes he sees all the time, insisting that they need jail time.
Phoenix Grey, otherwise known as Design Daddy online, took to his social media account to share the “icks” that are done by landlords.
Dressed in a black T-shirt, he told viewers: “I need to put out some harsh sentences for these landlords that think they’re doing the most, when they're doing the least.”
He went on to explain that the very first interior mistake people make is when they put a coat of paint on a wall without using filler to cover up any cracks.
Phoenix said: “If you think it’s okay to just throw some paint and filler over anything, including wires, outlets and even bugs…
“I’m giving you a life sentence without the possibility of parole.”
He went on to joke that the same person who made that mistake should use a toothpick to remove all the paint that’s been layered on top of each other.
“…Including hundreds of layers you’ve added, thinking it’s acceptable,” he said.
“If the paint is dripping off the walls, it needs help.”
The third offensive mistake landlords have made, in Phoenix’s professional opinion, is when they’re done hole repairs after watching bad DIY YouTube videos.
As he said this, he shared photos of holes and fixtures that have been poorly repaired, including areas of the wall that appeared stretched and holes that hadn’t been properly filled in.
He said: “You’re going to have to take classes on how to properly install and fix these kind of holes.”
TikTok user @mrphoenixgrey continued: “If your landlord is a DIY specialist, I’m giving them another life sentence and making them use all their profits to hire the professionals to fix the problems that they said they would fix themselves.
“This includes tiling jobs that they got lazy on, bad trim work because they thought they were going to carpenter, and installing things absolutely terribly.
“I’m so embarrassed to think that you think that you’re worth saving money and having your name attached to it looks like this.”
In the caption, he added: “Coming in hot for the landlords and their well deserved sentencing. What’s the worst landlord special you’ve ever seen, or encountered?”
People were quick to comment as one person wrote: “they painted over an led strip in my apt, i also found paper towel behind my closet shelf caulked and painted over”.
Another shared: “My last apartment had a painted-over bug on the trim, and one of the closets had been painted over so many times, it was hard to open the door”.
A third shared: “How about painting over a peel and stick tile floor? Black paint…that chips…and shows all the dirt and hair”.
Phoenix replied: “Nooooo overtop a peel and stick. That’s criminal”.
While a fourth added: “I had an apartment when I was younger that painted over rotting walls and trim. You could pierce straight through with a toothpick”.
