The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Chennai has predicted light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm lightning over several districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on Monday. Chennai and surrounding areas have also received moderate rainfall since early morning.
As per the latest bulletin at 10 am Monday, a total of 10 districts in Tamil Nadu including Tiruvallur, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpattu, Ranipettai, Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkotai and Sivaganga districts are likely to receive rainfall for the next few hours.
Waterlogging and traffic disruption is likely in some areas, the weather department added.
Meanwhile, Chennai’s Kancheepuram Taluk office rain gauge station recorded the highest of 10 cm of rainfall in the last 24 hours. It is followed by Malar Colony (Zone 8, Greater Chennai Corporation) and Gummidipoondi (Tiruvallur district) with 6 cm each.
Several private weather bloggers have predicted rainfall for the next 24 hours.
The popular weather handle Chennai Rains said few areas in southern Tamil Nadu including Thoothukudi and Tirunelvi may see heavy rainfall later on Monday. Chennai and suburbs are expected to receive moderate rainfall Monday night or Tuesday morning hours.
The handle also noted that moderate rainfall is likely to continue over coastal areas of Tamil Nadu and South Andhra Pradesh under the influence of Easterlies.
