Two students at Coventry University have created the new interior of Coventry University Group’s India Hub in Delhi.
During their second-year, interior architecture & design students Khadija Modak and Richelee Caldeira both submitted designs for the interior of the Hub before working together on a final design incorporating aspects of both.
To help refine their ideas, Richelee and Khadija then worked with award-winning architectural firm Broadway Malyan, to develop the final proposal.
Adopting a minimalist corporate design scheme, it includes some traditional patterns reflective of Indian culture as well as some features and colours linked to Coventry University Group’s branding.
It also makes use of wood to add warmth to the space and sound-absorbing materials.
Khadija, said: “It has been a great project to be involved with, I really learnt a lot, it feels amazing knowing that something you’ve designed will be created in real life. Working with Broadway Malyan was really enjoyable, it was a great atmosphere in the studio working alongside people developing real-life projects.
“I’m really happy with the design we’ve created, I’m particularly proud of the watercolour effect background used, it’s a little bit different from our usual Coventry University branding, but I feel it complements the modern style of the Hub.”
Richelee, from Goa, said: “I’m thrilled to see the design come to fruition, I feel very proud to know that something I’ve worked to design is going to become a reality in my own country, I’m hoping to visit and see it for myself at some point.
“This is an office project, but we were keen to use colours to make the design a bit more than just an ordinary office space, so for me the colour palette is the element of the design I’m most happy about.
“Working with Broadway Maylan was great and collaborating with a company like that with a number of international bases, is a really good thing to have on my CV.”
The new hub in Delhi, which is expected to open in Spring 2024, will join Coventry University’s growing network of Global Hubs, which also includes bases in Dubai, Singapore, China and Brussels.
They aim to establish strategic collaborations with organisations in the regions they serve, helping to support their global aspirations.
Richard Jones, Assistant Professor for Interior Architecture & Design at Coventry University, said: “They were given quite a tight brief, which is useful because it teaches how to work within boundaries. What we wanted was something contemporary, but also something with an element of context that reflects where the hub is located.
“Khadija and Richelee worked together on this, they did everything from the technical drawings to the 3D renderings. Our students have designed the interiors for some of our other Hubs, in Dubai, Rwanda and Beijing, but the India Hub is the biggest one we’ve done. Being able to work closely with Broadway Malyan is fantastic for our students, it adds credibility to their work and brings their ideas to life.”
